In this study, various errors in Diabetes management were analysed and compared in both a paper-based system and the GlucoTab digital system.

With GlucoTab, dosing errors were reduced to one-eighth compared to paper-based management.

Calculation errors could be completely avoided with GlucoTab. Manual insulin dose calculations were the major source of error using paper-based blood glucose management.

Dosing errors resulting from paper-based management led to hypoglycemic episodes, OR 3.1 (95% CI: 1.4–6.8). With GlucoTab, some workflow deviations (e.g. missed tasks) still occurred, resulting in cases of elevated blood glucose values, OR 2.2 (95% CI: 1.1–4.6).
